HABANERA saxophone academy exists in Poitiers – France since 2000. Each summer, more than 50 young saxophonists come from many countries (Europe japan, China, Usa, Canada) to have lessons with members of HABANERA sax quartet and other guest musicians. These students practice music on concerts during the festival Saxophone in Motion.

Mucical level is 6 years of practicing to professional level.

During 2019 academy, workshops are :

  • Individual Lessons.
  • Music Chamber.
  • Great ensemble of saxophone with a profesionnal conductor.
  • Rehearsal with piano.
  • Conferences.
  • Workshops improvisation , pedagogy and saxophone repair.
  • Concerts.

Teachers Team

Masataka Hirano

Masataka Hirano

Graduate of the Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music, Mastaka Hirano won the 1st prize with the international saxophone competition Jean-Marie Londeix in Bordeaux in 1996. Graduate of the CNSMD of Paris he is concert performer in Europe and has recorded several albums.
Also composer, he explores varied and original musical styles. He belongs to the japonese quartet BLUE AURORA.

Julien Petit

Julien Petit

Graduate of CNSMD of Paris in saxophone and music chamber, Julien Petit is 2nd prize of international A. SAX competition in DINANT (Belgique) and 3rd prize of competition in Bayreuth, Limoges, Gap. He has recorded his first CD «la Escapada» with Vincent Balse, pianist.
With Carré Mêlé quartet, he produced «Saxophare and Sémaphore» with traditionnal. He has recorded «Saxophon» with all sax compositions from K.H. Stockhausen. His last recording is «Fryleh from Vladivostok» with Klezele trio.

Sylvain Malezieux

Sylvain Malezieux

Graduate of the CNSMD of Paris in classes of saxophone and music chamber (3rd cycle with HABANERA sax quartet) , Sylvain MALEZIEUX is finalist of the international sax competition of Gap. He is saxophone teacher at the Conservatoire with departmental radiation of Evreux. Musician in the orchestra of the opera of Rouen. He is artistic director of «Musiques à Brac» and organise workshops for amateur musicians.
Fabrizio Mancuso

Fabrizio Mancuso

Graduate of the CNSMD of Paris in classes of saxophone and music chamber (3rd cycle with HABANERA sax quartet) , Fabrizio MANCUSO is finalist of the international sax competition of Dinant.
He is saxophone teacher at the Conservatoire with regional radiation of Annecy. Intervened in the Milan Scala Orchestra , he taught ten years with the european academy of Gap.

Gilles Tressos

Gilles Tressos

Graduate of the CNSMD of Paris in classes of saxophone and music chamber (3rd cycle with HABANERA sax quartet) , Gilles TRESSOS  is finalist of the international sax competition of Aix les Bains. He is saxophone teacher at the Conservatoire with regional radiation of Poitiers. He is professor at the Cnsmd of Paris in PEDAGOGY and the Pole of higher learning of Poitou-Charentes.
Hilomi SAKAGUCHI

Hilomi SAKAGUCHI

Graduate of the Soai University of Music (Japan and the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris), Hilomi Sakaguchi was named piano teacher at the University of Music of Soai (Japan). Accompanying in the Conservatoire with regional radiation of Bordeaux and pianist with Proxima Centauri ensemble, she gives international master-classes in Europ, Asia and South-America.
Flavien Boy

Flavien Boy

Flavien Boy obtient les prix de direction d’orchestre (classe d’Alain Altinoglu), d’écriture musicale, d’analyse musicale et d’orchestration. Cette formation lui a permis de diriger divers orchestres nationaux et internationaux (Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orchestre de la Hongrie du Nord, Orchestre Janacek d’Ostrava, Brussels Philharmonic, Orchestre d’Auvergne, Orchestre des Pays de la Loire…) et de rencontrer de nombreux chefs parmi lesquels Susanna Malkki, David Zinman, Laszlo Kovacs, Tito Ceccherini, Arie van Beek…

Schedule of lessons

HABANERA academy proposes 4 different pedagogic registrations, each student has to choose one schedule in registration form.

SCHEDULE 1 – Individual lessons and music chamber
Formule mixte entre cours individuels et musique de chambre.

  • 5 individual lessons with each of the 5 saxophonist teachers.
  • 3  music chamber lessons with each of the 5 saxophonist teachers.
  • 1 or 2 rehearsals with piano.
  • Great ensembles saxophone workshops with Victorien VANOOSTEN conductor.

SCHEDULE 2 – Individual lessons – Performance soloist

  • 5 individual lessons with each of the 5 saxophonist teachers.
  • 2 rehearsals with piano – the student has to note almost three pieces with piano on registration form.
  • 2 music chamber lessons.
  • Great ensembles saxophone workshops with conductor.

SCHEDULE 3 – Music Chamber
Schedule perfectly adapted for Sax Quartet already formed.

  • 5 music chamber lessons with each of the 5 saxophonist teachers (duration 60 mn).
  • 1 rehearsal with piano (30 min) : 1 individual lesson (30 min) for technical advises.
  • Great ensembles saxophone workshops with conductor.

SCHEDULE 4 – Short and intensive workshop / Training International music competition

Duration 4 days ; Monday the 5 th to Thursday the 8 th : PRIZE REGISTRATION : 510 € (full accomodation from the 5th diner to breakfast of the 9th in the morning).

  • 4 individual lessons with each of the 5 saxophonist teachers.
  • 3 rehearsals with piano.
  • 1 piece inside great ensemble
  • public concert in front of JURY of saxophone teachers.
  • Talk and discussion after playing with the jury.
  • Workshop mental and physical training.
  • no music chamber.

All students will meet international guest musiciens in MASTER-CLASS (Jazz improvisation, etc… program will be soon communicated).

All students will perform in SAX IN MOTION Festival.

All concerts of SAX in MOTION are free for students.

Optional Workshops

  • Pedagogy : Preparation for pedagogy exam (exam for intrance in Pedagogy Course in Superior Conservatory in paris) / Professor : Gilles TRESSOS / Fee Workshop : 95 € / 3 hours.
  • Orchestra conducting : With Flavien BOY conductor / Fee Workshop : 95 € / 4 hours
  • Workshop Saxophon Repairing by Selmer technician Martin DEUTSCH / Fee Workshop : 95 € / 4 hours.
  • Workshop Mental and physical training for musical international competition, training for concert, control your stress / Fee Workshop : 95 € / 3 hours.
  • Workshop Improvisation / Free fee for Habanera students / 95 € for extra students.

Cost and Registration

If registration form is received before 2019 january the 15 th or march the 1st, prize registration is lower.

SCHEDULE 1, 2 and 3 with Full accomodation (same fee for these 3 schedule).

Major Student (more than 18 years old on August the 5th)

  • 715 € (registration received before 2019, January the 15 th) in full accomodation.
  • 755 € (registration received before 2019 , March the 1st) in full accomodation.
  • 775 € (registration received after 2019 , March the 1st) in full accomodation.

Minor Student (less than 18 years old on August the 5th)

  • 735 € (registration received before 2019 , January the 15 th) in full accomodation.
  • 775 €  (registration received before 2019 , March the 1st) in full accomodation.
  • 795 € (registration received after 2019 , March the 1st) in full accomodation.

Other schedules

  • 640 € : Classes, midday, and diner service.
  • 580 € : Classes, and midday service.
  • 520 € : Classes without food and hostel service.

  • 450 € : Observer and lunch service.

Short and Intensive schedule (4 days, from 5 th to 8 th) – For Major Students.

  • 510 € with classes and full accomodation.

Accomodations (food ans lodging)

The accomadotion for Major students takes place on CANOLLE UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE in single room.

Canolle Residence is 2 minutes by foot from Conservatory of Poitiers.

Each single room has equipment , bed , bathroom, toilets.

Breakfast are on Restaurant ” LE TOIT DU MONDE”,  1 minute by foot from Canolle Residence and conservatory.

Minor students will have breakfast in the CARNOT HOTEL.

Lunch and Diner will take place on RESTAURANT ” LE TOIT du MONDE” 1 minute by foot from COnservatory , near the conservatory.

Practical organisation

First registration day is August 2019 , Monday the 5th.

Each student has to be arrived before 4 PM on August, Monday the 5th.

Lessons begin at 4.30 PM.

A free shuttle will be possible between Train station Poitiers – Conservatoire de Poitiers on Monday the 5th between 10 AM and 4.30 PM.

When students arrived , it will happen :

Official registration and signature.

Sold payment ( in EUROS cash only or cheque to « Saxophone Evenement » )

Instruments and music scores lended.
